I booked out on Friday night, got home, bathed, had dinner, came online, do the usual stuff and went to bed after dozing off watching my Vimeo subscriptions. Saturday morning, I woke to continue my usual online stuff…

Sounds like a boring weekend…? Nah, the highlights are coming up… Dad suddenly pulled out from the outing because he wasn’t feeling well so I drove my brother and sister down town after lunch. I parked at Palais Renaissance where my brother’s having his Chinese tuition.

I walked to Takashimaya where I strolled Kinokuniya for awhile to get a gauge of how much I will spend on my next Book Shopping Spree. About $200 for Twilight Series, Brisingr, Freakonomics, The Last Lecture, The Black Swan, Fooled by Randomness, A Thousand Splendid Suns, The Tales of Beedle the Bard… How am I going to afford them… I guess I should finish up already-full-and-unread bookshelf first… By then, these books should be cheaper…?

After the quick gauge, I went for my facial appointment. Microdermabrasion to repair the damages outfields have done to my face… After the facial, I joined my Mom and sister to Food Republic, Wisma Atria where we packed food for our picnic. We fetched the brother and headed to the new Marina Barrage.

The road to the Barrage is so chaotic with all the construction going on at the Marina Bay Sands. I thought I was going to get into a car accident… It started to drizzle when we arrived. We had our little picnic in the shelter on the Green Roof before exploring the Barrage…

We got a little carried away and forgot to keep track of the time. We left the Barrage at 7PM when our movie was at 7.20PM at Marina Square. We rushed and we ran and managed to sit in time for the movie, Madagascar 2.

Madagascar 2 is sure a funny family oriented movie with lessons to learn about Friendship, Love, Kinship, Courage, Perserverance and also a speck of satire. Not forgetting the catchy move soundtrack which hooked us up since the first Madagascar movie. You got to move it, move it! 4.5 / 5

After the movie, I tried my luck for Donut Factory’s Double Chocolate Donut but the Suntec branch was already closed… We got back to our car parked at Millenia Walk and saw the car covered with dirt patches! Must have been the drizzle and dirt from the Marina South roads… We went for a car wash before heading home which marks the end of the outing.

I will be booking in at 1725H later. That’s 5.25PM. I shall go start packing for book in. I will be booking out this Friday. 🙂

More than 2 years ago, we went on an outing to East Coast Park. 2 years now, we finally got our second cousins’ outing with more people this time. We went to catch Alvin and the Chipmunks at The Cathay. 3.5 / 5. After the movie, we took a train to Vivocity where we had dinner at Terra Cafe. Chilled out, camwhored, bimbo-ed/ himbo-ed at the Sky Garden before we went SHAWPING.

I got myself a little white umbrella at Daiso and they got some other stuff for $2 each. We didn’t get anything from the Post-Christmas sales going on everywhere though. The sales isn’t that amazing for me. Nothing caught my eye and I really have no idea what am I going to wear for Chinese New Year…

I didn’t had a bash for Christmas but it sure was tiring… Must have been the most tiring Christmas I ever had… I cannot even recall everything I do in proper detail… Too much happened so I will jot down what I did for my own future references…

After attending the block meeting, I thought I was running a little late… I quickly went to draw some money and waited for 960 towards Little India where I changed to North East Line MRT to go to Hougang… I didn’t know NEL would be so fast and I ended up early at Hougang… It was around 11.15 PM before I finally met up Mei Yi and Edward then Allan and a new friend, Fish.

We went to 7 Elevens looking for liquor but choices were limited so Allan called his friends to get some on their way… We headed for Allan’s house straight. We met Liting at the doorsteps and went up together. Watched a little of HBO before setting up the tables, chairs and mahjong sets. We had 2 mahjong tables that night for us and Allan’s friends.

I think I am improving at Mahjong or maybe I am plain lucky or maybe it’s because Liting’s around so she took over the biggest loser position… I lost $4 as compared to $37 two weeks ago. The next time, I guess I will start winning…?

We took a tiny nap around 7 AM and had our brunch at Hougang Mall before splitting for home. I thought this would be the end of my day. It wasn’t… I met up with Allan and Liting at Marina Square in the evening again… We met for dinner at Food Republic then caught The Nanny Diaries at Golden Village.

I think The Nanny Diaries isn’t a movie for everybody… It will be a good movie to watch for modern parents, for people with similar past like Grayer’s, for people who’s clueless about what they want in life like Annie… I thought the inner emotions were nicely captured especially Mrs X’s frustrations in life. 4 / 5 I gave 4 for the emotions, lessons and revelations in such a brief 100 minute movie. It could have been better if more details from the book was adapted and more character development.

On Sunday, after church service, Jasmine and I went to Orchard. We had wanted to eat Pontian Wanton Noodles at Heeren but later changed plans because I thought it was quite salty and drying to the throat…

We wanted to accompany Liting for dinner but she had company so we ate on our own. We bought packed food from Takashimaya basement and had our little picnic outside Ngee Ann City. It’s my first time doing such a thing and it was quite interesting though a bit warm… We talked over dinner… Definitely feels good to have someone to confide in (Thanks Sister!).

After dinner, we went to look for Liting around 9.30 PM. We waited for her to knock off before going to Burger King, Cineleisure to chat… I introduced them to each other and somehow they clicked well… In fact, too well that every time I tried to disturb either one of them, they will “attack” me together… Oh well… Liting joined her friends for supper at 11 PM while Jasmine and I headed home…

What a weekend… Staying over at Allan’s on Friday. Coming home past midnight on Saturday and Sunday… I realise my late nights are taking its toll on my complexion and health… Pimples and heatiness… I better take good care of myself and perhaps tone down a little to recuperate for my next activity on Friday…

The fifth movie based on J.K Rowling’s 7-book Magical Series, Harry Potter. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Harry goes back to school to hostile surroundings. The Daily Prophet, under the influence of the Ministry, has been discrediting Harry and Dumbledore for their claims on The Dark Lord’s return. Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic, denies the return of The Dark Lord as he thinks Dumbledore is using this to overthrow him. Dolores Umbridge comes to Hogwarts as the new DADA teacher and continuously widens her job scope with the backing of the Ministry.

The Dark Lord is back and it is to the students’ interest that they are equipped with magical skills to defend themselves. However, Dolores bans all practical magic at school. Harry and friends, under the unreasonable Dolores regime, forms the DA (Dumbledore’s Army) and trains in the Room of Requirement. The DA got discovered and Fudge eventually dismisses Dumbledore from Headmaster office and appoints Dolores Umbridge as Headmistress of Hogwarts.

Harry constantly gets nightmares in the Dark Lord’s perspective. The Dark Lord learns of it and tricked Harry and the DA into the Ministry of Mysteries where the battle between the good and evil begins… A war that will bring us to the end of the series…

I think this movie would make more impact on Harry Potter readers than non-readers. The movie, based on the thickest book in the series, is very fast-paced. It shows only crucial parts contributing to the main plot and went on. Cut and go, cut and go. There were many details that were left out but it still makes a good visual supplement to the book itself.

I thought Gary Oldman portrayed Sirius Black well as such a loveable, charming and charismatic character. It is sad that he couldn’t stay longer… Helena Bonham Carter also portrayed Bellatrix LeStrange so well, the look, dressing and behaviour… Evanna Lynch deserves some mention for her portrayal of the very eccentric, luny yet wise Luna Lovegood.

The script was brilliant. Many funny dialogues and many lessons to be learnt too.

Sirius Black: Besides, the world isn’t split into good people and death eaters. We have all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the power we chose to act on. That’s who we really are.

4 / 5 for battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort, the script, acting and fine adaptation of the book as we can’t possibly see everything on screen…

3 movies I have watched recently. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. Ocean’s 13. Transformers.

PotC: At World’s End

Aye! The last voyage of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Half the movie, I was trying to figure what was actually going on… I think it would take several plays for me to actually understand…

Let’s see. The East India Trading Company has got hold of The Dead Man’s Chest and Captain Davy Jones is bound to obey. The EITC sets off in pursuit of the pirates to sink them to their extinction with Davy Jones’ Flying Dutchman.

Barbossa, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann and the crew of Black Pearl goes to Captain Sao Feng, the Pirate Lord of the South China Sea, for directions and aid to World’s End where they can rescue Captain Jack Sparrow and The Black Pearl from Davy Jones’ Locker. In between, deals were made Will with Sao Feng and Sao Feng with the EITC for their respective things they have in mind. Will for his father to be released from the Flying Dutchman. Sao Feng for the Black Pearl and his own freedom.

After the crew escapes the Locker, Will brings them to an island where he arranged to meet Sao Feng. Sao Feng captures the crew and hands them over to the EITC to realise he will not get The Pearl. Betrayed, Sao Feng joins up with Barbossa and company.

The journey carries on with Elizabeth made Pirate Lord of the South China Sea, Brethren Court agrees to unbind Calypso from her human form, the pirate war which only the Black Pearl and Fling Dutchman fought while the other pirate ships floating around as audience, Will becomes the Captain of the Flying Dutchman.

The swashbuckling scenes still brilliant. Johnny Depp still at the Jack Sparrow with all his hallucinations… Nevertheless, it takes a lot understanding to appreciate this movie. It was through further research that I got to understand the plot more and start appreciating the pirate nature. Treachery, lies and Pirate Code… 3 / 5 before understanding. 4 / 5 after understanding.

Ocean’s 13

The Ocean steps out again on their quest to avenge for their friend. It is a movie of brilliance. On how the team carefully plans and designs to rig the casino games in “The Bank” hotel, bypass the AI security system, kick Willy Bank out of his own hotel and diminish his chances of the highest distinction award for the hotel. The movie can be a good laugh and their plans so intrinsic but to some extent far-fetched. 3.5 / 5

Transformers

Before time began, there was… the cube. We know not where it comes from, only that it holds the power to create worlds and fill them… with life. That is how our race was born. For a time we had lived in harmony, but like all great power, some wanted it for good… others, evil. And so, began the war. A war that ravages our planet until it was consumed by death. And the cube was lost to the far reaches of space. We step in across the galaxy hoping to find it and rebuild our home. Searching every star. Every world. And just when all hopes seem lost; message of a new discovery took us to an unknown planet called… Earth. But we were already too late.

The war between Autobots and Decepticons comes to Earth. The search of the cube rounds down to the Witwickys. Sam Witwicky attempts selling his Great Great Grandfather’s glasses on Ebay. It turns out that his Great Great Grandfather was the one who first discovered Megatron, leader of the Decepticons. Megatron had etched in his glasses, the map to the cube and now the Decepticons and Autobots are after it. The story unfolds with the cube with Sector Seven, a secret US agency. Autobots protects it while the Decepticons fight and destroy to try get hold of it.

I thought the movie was quite political. Like VolksWagen being nudged away by the Chevrolet. Super advanced robots being built by the Japanese. Indians working in an outsourced call centre. The US fighting war against the wrong countries. Then it was quite religious too. God appeared many times in the script. The cross was worn by a Sector Seven bugger. Bumblebee told Sam that it is a visitor from the heavens. The cube is like God, holding the power to create worlds and fill them with life. Autobots, the Angels and Deceptions, Fallen Angel.

There was also a line, “No sacrifice, no victory”. This year is FCBC’s Year of Victory. Pastor William said, there’s no victory with battles. I guess sacrificing is another part of victory.

Transformers was BREATHTAKINGLY AWESOME. It’s the MUST WATCH movie of the year. I literally lost my breath watching it with every moment so exciting. The effects were crazy with the shock waves and transformations. I love this movie to bits and definitely worth buying the DVD to watch it again and again. This movie shoots out of the 5 rating. 50 / 5
