Step Up

I met up Zhi Kai at Lot1 Arcade before going to Causeway Point to meet up with Hui Jin. Zhi Kai and I had Yoshinoya before the three of us head down to The Cathay. We were going to watch Step Up.

We reached The Cathay around 7 PM and got our tickets on row J for the 9.20 PM show. Goodness, luckily we were early or there won’t be anymore seats…

We had to take the escalators up The Cathay as CitiGroup was having their Corporate Event for Casino Royale. The Cathay is still pathetically partially open and there was nothing much to see or windowshop there… We proceeded to Plaza Singapura…

Zhi Kai was looking for ideas for his Prom Night. Hui Jin and I immediately jumped into action! We walked several shops and decided for a horizontal striped T-Shirt, an outerwear, jeans and sneakers to give him a smart casual look. We simply don’t like being extremely formal for Prom Night because it usually turns out a disaster…

While browsing for Zhi Kai, I also tooked the chance to relieve my shopping craving… I realise P.O.A actually has quite nice clothes, another outlet to visit…

We had Takoyaki at PS Basement 2 before going back to The Cathay. Zhi Kai had his first Takoyaki in his 18 years of life… That sounds so ridiculous because we can have Takoyaki everyday at Canteen 1…

Step Up is a movie about Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum), a 18-year old rebel from Baltimore who studies in Public School and parties at all night long. Tyler was never acknowledged as a talented dancer until he broke some stage in the prestigious school of Maryland School of the Arts. The court sentenced him to 200-hour of community service with the school and the story begins…

Nora Clark (Jenna Dewan) is a priviledged dancer at the school and her dance partner for her senior showcase had just injured his ankle. Nora auditions for a new dance partner to no avail but Tyler comes along. Nora asks for the Director’s permission to have Tyler as her dance partner…

Nora had some tough time with Tyler who had his own style of dancing. He thought Nora’s dance was too stiff and goes ahead to modifies her dance, bring in more dancers etc. Tyler gradually blends into the higher society, gets closer to Nora and even request for a transfer into Maryland School of the Arts but he has to prove himself…

Obstacles hinder Tyler but at the end, he prevails to fulfil his dream as a dancer.

Step Up, at cover, is just a movie about dance but it is not. It has so much meaning in it, to motivate people to chase their dreams despite the many hardships. Even a rebel like Tyler can step up into the prestigious school. Why can’t others?
