Goong

Posted on: July 11, 2006

School has been very hectic and demanding since the term started. This is going to end soon since we handed up our last piece of written project work this morning. In the next weeks, there will be 2 presentations for BLAW and FIT. Then it will be the end of project works for this semester.

Had a long chat with Phil at Starbucks while waiting for the heavy rain to stop; and perhaps a break from the workload… I actually have a lot of thoughts now but I don’t think I want to blog about it… Thoughts of school, school work, grades and sorts…

Life’s been a bore because I am stuck day and night in-front of this keyboard doing projects and tutorials. There’s literally no time for me to blog anything substantial… How about a drama recommendation?

Goong, is the Korean drama I am recommending. It has this complicated plot, like a 10,000 piece Jigsaw Puzzle, that I don’t know where to start. Basically it’s about a Crown Prince Shin (Joo Ji Hoon) having to abide a marriage agreement to marry a commoner girl, Chae-Kyung (Yoon Eun Hye). Then it just all happened.

The current Emperor, Shin’s father, was not supposed to succeed the throne if not for an accident. Shin’s elder uncle, who was the previous Crown Prince and original successor of the throne, died in an car accident. His wife and son, Yul, were exiled from the palace by the Palace Laws. It was Yul who should have been the Crown Prince.

After 14 years of exile in United Kingdom, Yul returns together with his mother. Yul falls in love with Chae-Kyung. Due to the Crown Prince’s bad attitude, Chae-Kyung built a strong friendship with Yul which sparks jealousy between the cousins. On the other hand, the Crown Prince’s first love, Hyo-rin tries all ways to break the royal couple.

Love affairs aside, Yul’s mother returns and plots to put Yul back to his rightful Emperor’s throne. The Empress gains knowledge of her ulterior motives and tries to stop her.

All the pieces of the puzzle come together, to become perhaps the most beautiful puzzle you will ever see. The puzzle of battles of love and politics.

I really enjoyed the drama series a lot which brought me excitements, disappointments and feelings for the characters. I especially like the original soundtrack. I know my recommendation skills ain’t very good and you are not convinced. I heard it is going to be aired in Singapore National TV in September so do have a try and hope you will like it.
